Cambridge Health Alliance Center for Mindfulness and Compassion is seeking Massachusetts residents aged 21 to 29 who regularly consume alcohol for a paid research study examining the feasibility and acceptability of an intervention to reduce alcohol consumption.
Over a three-week period, participants will attend two in-person lab visits in Malden to complete surveys, view alcohol-related images, and listen to guided mindfulness practices while wearing a vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) device in the ear. This device, which has been safely used in prior clinical trials for conditions like depression and migraines, is designed to promote relaxation, and participants will be randomly assigned to either an active or inactive stimulation group. There is no cost to attend the lab visits or the virtual mindfulness training. Participants will be compensated with up to $100 for attending the lab visits and completing study-related tasks.
